MediaController is the user-friendly browser-based media control interface for the MediaMaster video on demand system. MediaController works in concert with standard web browsers to control video sources via a MediaMaster server. (MM-1000 or MM-2000) On the left side of the screen, MediaController presents an idealized view of the school’s media playback components including DVDs, VCRs, and digital video players. Teachers can scroll this area of the screen to see additional players. This section of the screen also gives access to the Video On Demand feature, which lets teachers choose a digital video title and immediately stream it to their classroom display (e.g. TV, projector, multimedia monitor) or their computer. At the top of the right side of the screen, there is a control pad for manually controlling the classroom display. It works like a typical TV remote control. Below this, MediaController shows the currently-selected video source and the list of available broadcast channels. The MediaMaster system allows for custom channel icons, so you can customize the appearance of this section to suit the site’s channel lineup. The MediaMaster system includes optional control modules that keep the classroom display synchronized with the selected video source. For instance, when you change to a different video source, it will can turn the classroom’s display on if needed and change it to the appropriate channel. MediaController works with all MediaMaster systems, regardless of configuration complexity. It abstracts away differences in video delivery mechanisms, display control mechanisms, and video source control mechanisms. Teachers don’t have to know how the system really works to use it effectively.
