Opened in March 2022, Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is located approximately 30 miles north of Mexico City and is the second civilian airport serving the city’s metropolitan area. The new facility was converted from a former military airfield into a commercial airport and serves as a complementary hub to Mexico City International Airport.

With security top of mind, AIFA was built with an Airport Operational Center (APOC) for planning, monitoring and overseeing airport operations including security and air control. The APOC features high-tech control centers that are also tasked with managing national security as well as monitoring all airports across Mexico together with the country’s entire airspace.

To enhance the visibility of data and information at this mission-critical facility, the APOC’s control centers were outfitted with an impressive array of high-performing LED and LCD video walls from Planar. The collection of display technologies include:

A curved, 91-foot-wide, 5-foot-high (46x4) Planar® TVF Series LED video wall with a 0.9mm pixel pitch (TVF0.9) that is installed in the Operations Control Center

A 61.5-foot-wide, 5-foot-high (31x4) Planar TVF Series LED video wall with a 0.9mm pixel pitch (TVF0.9) located in the Control Sector Area

A nearly 20-foot-wide, 4.5-foot-high (5x2) Clarity Matrix® G3 LCD Video Wall System (MX55M) located in the Emergency Operations Center

A nearly 12-foot-wide, 4.5-foot-high (3x2) Clarity Matrix G3 LCD Video Wall System (MX55M) that is installed in the Security Operations Center/Network Operations Center

A nearly 12-foot-wide, 6-foot-high (6x5) Planar TVF Series LED video wall with a 2.5mm pixel pitch (TVF2.5) located in a reception area.

Optimal Decision-Making

Featuring bright screens, sharp image quality and 24x7 reliability, the Planar LED and LCD video walls are a key resource for the APOC and integral for maintaining security and safety across the airport and beyond. According to Maj. Guillermo Omaña, technical support coordinator for the APOC, the video walls improve the decision-making capacity of APOC staff for managing airport security and operations, and for monitoring Mexican airspace or any element of national security.

“We have instant access to information and greater control of the video wall systems-we can quickly switch to any source, visualize different cameras and manage every detail that is needed,” Omaña said. “The resolution and precision are unmatched. The video walls are rugged pieces of equipment and have worked flawlessly since being installed. They have exceeded all of our expectations.”
