Several years ago, Badung Regency in Bali instituted a smart city program to help solve the increasing traffic congestion and modernize the IT infrastructure on the island. The program included the deployment of several hundred CCTV cameras and free Wi-Fi access points—all of which are managed centrally at the Badung Command Center. To cope with the large amount of data that must be processed, they chose Barco’s state-of-the-art control-room technology. The traffic control center is now prepared for the future—more cameras will be installed in the coming years and a significant increase in the amount of incoming data is predicted.
Badung Regency is one of the most densely populated areas in Bali and is home to the most important tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants on the island. Many popular destinations are located in the regency, including Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Jimbaran, which means managing the increasing traffic congestion is of vital importance. This is why the local government instituted a smart city program to collect more data on events in Bandung and enhance the services offered to visiting tourists.
Badung Command Center manages one of the busiest areas in Bali. Managing so much data requires reliable installations with exceptional endurance. And not only do the installations need to work well independently, but the connections between the products, controllers and software need to run perfectly. They chose to work with Barco thanks to our stellar reputation for providing control-room solutions, with reference cases in Indonesia and South East Asia. Barco offers the latest technology in rear-projection displays, LCD displays, networking and meeting-room collaboration—solutions that work together to create reliable, smooth-functioning control rooms.
Barco installed a laser-lit 9x3 ODL-721 video wall in the main control center, controlled with a fully redundant TransForm N system that allows users to display content from both operator workstations and the data center—which is located in the same building. The boardroom, located in a different building, was fitted with a 2x2 Barco UniSee display that is also linked to the main control center. ClickShare was also installed to easily display content from laptops and mobile devices on the Barco UniSee display with the click of a button.
‘Barco’s technology is impressive; we were able to bundle together the best video-wall products, controllers and software into one single solution,’ says Gde Made, business manager at PT Aplikanusa Lintasarta, the project system integrator. ‘The support provided by Barco's local partner, VisionTech, has been outstanding.’
As a popular tourist destination, the amount of traffic in the Badung Regency is set to continue increasing. Barco’s solutions mean the Badung Command Center is not only equipped to handle the data load today; they are prepared for the future and the increasing amounts of information streaming in from the smart city program.
